Description:
BACKGROUND
Marcus Cloverfield is the 2nd son, third-youngest child of Lord Reginald and Lady Daphne Cloverfield. His older siblings are Sebastian (seb) and Julia (Jules).

Dad is a hard-assed businessman who sees his family as tools in getting ahead. Seb is heading in much the same direction. Mum is much softer, and realises that Marcus is not the sort who wants to be a desk-jockey for the rest of his life. She it is who is supportive, and has set up alternate bank accounts for Marcus to use when Dad eventually decides to cut MArcus off to drive him to come home. Jules has also escaped the Familial clutches, at least temporarily, by joining the Imperial Police.

The family business is mining. The Cloverfield consortium owns a large chunk of the asteroid belt and has subsidiaries and factors in many of the more important systems.

The Kanlys.

Marcus is engaged to Tallulah Kanly, the homely and boring (as he sees it, anyway) daughter of Lord and Lady kanly, proprietors of one of Earth's larger manufactoring concerns (which made the Lady Jane, incidentally). Lords Cloverfield and Kanly agreed to a familial match as part of a long-term plan to merge their companies into a monolithic buiness empire covering the whole gamut from iron-ore to stardrives. Marcus, however, has decided to flee this match by jumping deep into the galaxy for a year-long sabbatical involving lots of adventure tourism and a little big-game hunting. Lord Cloverfield is furious, and has sent poeple out after Marcus. Lord Kanly is both furious and humiliated, and has sent people out to bring Marcus back, with the use of his legs if possible. If not, just as good.

Marcus had lots of friends amongst the local system's jetset, but his interstellar contacts are few, having never really travelled.
