Commander Qaris X'Vandi is very nearly the holomovie stereotype of the Olqastran soldier: thoroughly professional, intensely comradely, and overly given to moral philosophy.
Qaris is an adherent of the Precepts, the dominant Olqastran honour code. This informs her decisions and actions, and drives her to seek the best from the officers and crew of the Unity. Usually this means attending to the day-to-day running and organisation of the ship, sometimes it means making up for the Captain's more irascible tendencies, and on one occasion it meant a flustered ensign trying to explain what went wrong from the inside of the nearest torpedo tube.
Qaris settled well into the Fleet command pathway, progressing from leading boarding crews and undertaking special ops assignments to bridge officer roles. With the Olquastra joining the Alliance, the commander went from tactical officer work on ships hunting pirates in Civilisation space to first officer helping to defend the border from Xebaran incursion.
Coming up on promotion to command, Qaris has instead volunteered for assignment aboard the Unity.
