When strolling the gardens surrounding the hotel, there is a decaying, nearly illegible old stone monument among some scraggly dying shrubs. It seems this was the site of of an old “battle” in the Indian Wars, though a little research indicates that in the quaint way of the times the “battle” was really a massacre … and among the massacre victims was a half-crazed old medicine man who cursed the site and those whites who slaughtered his people.
